Yet even more intrigued, to discover that there are more than 500 species of sharks roaming in the deep blue seas today. The most popular you’re probably familiar with include the great white shark, tiger, blue, hammerhead and mako.

When it comes to shark symbolism, their fearlessness, supremacy and violence garnishes plenty of respect. It’s often been said in earlier times that when a shark tracks a ship, someone on deck is near death.

    The best shark tattoo designs….ever.
We’ve whittled a huge collection of shark tattoos down to the very best 50.

Whether we’re watching sharks slowly swim around on Nat Geo WILD, or imagining them lurking at the bottom of our suburban swimming pools, the ocean’s oldest predators are as fearsome as they are misunderstood.

Thanks to Hollywood, and a mouth full of menacing teeth, sharks usually get a bad rap—which is completely understandable. After all, as much as we love sharks, it’s tough not to imagine one appearing from the darkness to slowly naw off an appendage whenever you’re in a body of water deeper than a bathtub. But in reality, sharks are more likely to swim away from humans than to attack them. However, that’s not what makes sharks so fascinating. People are drawn to the shark for its killer and awesome qualities. Natures perfect killer.

When it comes to ink, shark tattoos are as popular as you would expect. The ocean’s most famous and feared fish has been tatted in just about every way imaginable. From hyperrealistic underwater murals to black and grey ink dotwork designs, this unique collection of shark tattoos has a little something for everyone.

Sharks everywhere! This particular fellow looks calm and peaceful. We especially appreciate the frame, as it gives the entire design a bit of an edge. And is that another shark tattoo on the other leg, or just a doodle? Care to speculate? We vote doodle, but you never know.

Although we can only see a bit of this shark tattoo, we can help but gush over it. It’s probably wonderful, as shark tattoos usually are. How far down do you think it goes?

A few weeks ago, we learned that most of the actors playing the six original Avengers — Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, and Chris Evans all got a custom-designed and matching Avengers tattoo to commemorate their years together in the Marvel universe. Conspicuously missing from the event was Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner recently revealed that his Avengers pal actually chickened out of getting the ink. He definitely didn’t Hulk out on this occasion.

Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon ahead of the premiere of his new movie Tag, Jeremy Renner revealed that the new tattoo represents the original Avengers, with an arrow for Hawkeye and various other symbols intertwined. Symbols for all the original six Avengers are in the tattoo, but not all six Avengers actually ended up getting the tattoo. Per Jeremy Renner:

What eventually happened was that Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans got their tattoos in New York, and the other three Avengers actors who participated got tattoos in Los Angeles with tattoo artist Joshua Lord. Mark Ruffalo “chickened out,” as Renner put it, although his symbol still appears in the tattoo’s design.

Later, Jeremy Renner said that while Mark Ruffalo was busy backing out of the tattoo option, he decided to joke around about the Hulk actor and the other previous iterations of Bruce Banner in the Marvel universe.

That’s a lot. It’s a lot more than for any other kind of tattoo. Only 50% would be less likely to hire someone with “tattoo(s) covering the entirety of one or both arms”, while 78% said a back tattoo would make no difference to their hiring decision.

Sorry, but isn’t this discrimination? How can a face tattoo make you less employable? It does demonstrate a certain lack of forward planning, in that you failed to anticipate that one day you’d be applying to work behind a perfume counter.

I suppose it’s lucky that facial tattoos aren’t more fashionable. Are you kidding? They’re all the rage, thanks to Meghan, the new Duchess of Sussex.

Meghan has a face tattoo? No, but the light spray of freckles across her nose and cheeks has become a sought-after look, so much so that an Atlanta cosmetic artist, Gabrielle Rainbow, is doing brisk business offering a tattooed alternative at $250 (£187) a pop.
